The return of the AMA Supercross 450 was full of intense and exciting moments, with Jett Lawrence leading for much of the main event but crashing and leaving the door open for Cooper Webb’s victory
The main event of the evening saw Jett Lawrence initially dominate the race, securing the holeshot ahead of Cooper Webb and Hunter Lawrence.
In the second corner, Jason Anderson collided with Justin Hill, Justin Barcia and Carson Mumford, setting the scene for an action-packed race. Eli Tomac, involved in a fierce battle with Vince Friese for sixth place, suffered a setback when he hit a kerb, dropping to 16th place at the end of the second lap.
As the race wore on, Ken Roczen tried to overtake Vince Friese for fifth place, but ended up colliding, resulting in Roczen crashing and dragging Malcolm Stewart with him. The ensuing chaos pushed Chase Sexton, Dylan Ferrandis and others off the track, leaving Vince Friese in a surprising solo fifth position.
Halfway through the race, Aaron Plessinger made a strategic manoeuvre to take third place from Hunter Lawrence, while Jett Lawrence increased his lead over the other drivers. Justin Cooper and Chase Sexton passed Friese for fifth and sixth, intensifying their ongoing battle.
Eli Tomac was on the rise and gaining positions progressively at this stage of the race, and would end up overtaking team-mate Justin Cooper, thus rising to sixth halfway through the race, and continued his progression until overtaking Chase Sexton to reach fifth and then Hunter Lawrence to be fourth a few minutes from the end of the race.
With Jett Lawrence comfortably leading with a four-second advantage over Cooper Webb, the battle for third place intensified between Tomac and Plessinger. Tomac, behind Plessinger for two laps, made a successful overtake, securing third place.
The climax of the race came in the final moments, when Jett Lawrence crashed unexpectedly, allowing Cooper Webb to take the lead with a minute and a half to go. Jett, determined to recover, remounted, but faced more challenges. In a last-ditch effort on the final lap, Jett collided with Vince Friese in the whoops, resulting in another crash.
In the end, Cooper Webb emerged victorious, crossing the finish line ahead of Eli Tomac, Aaron Plessinger, Jett Lawrence and Hunter Lawrence. The race’s unexpected twists and turns left fans marvelling, solidifying round seven as one of the most memorable of the Supercross season.
