Joan Mir is in the final year of his contract with Repsol Honda in MotoGP. His results have been far below his potential, not due to his own performance but because of the uncompetitiveness of his current bike. This may lead to his departure if he finds a more enticing project.
The 2020 World Champion mentioned that in the coming weeks, he needs to have a clearer idea of his immediate future: ‘Probably in Assen I need to have the things more clear about what I want to do’.
Currently, Mir admitted that he doesn’t have a clear idea of what to do next season, needing to know what options are available to him before making a decision:
– I need to have all the options on my table to decide one thing. To say that I know perfectly where I want to go is not my case now. I don’t know where I want to go. So I will wait until I have all the offers on the table and like this I will chose.
Besides Repsol Honda, only two factory teams have officially open spots at the moment – Aprilia and Yamaha. However, both manufacturers seem more inclined to retain their current riders (Maverick Viñales and Álex Rins, respectively).
In the satellite teams, the situation is different, with six seats available in those linked to Ducati, one at LCR Honda (which naturally won’t be an option for Mir), another at Red Bull GasGas Tech3, and two at Trackhouse Racing. There, the Majorcan would find team boss Davide Brivio, with whom he developed a successful working relationship at Suzuki.
