Joe Roberts is finally in the fight for the Moto2 title. In his seventh season, and at 26 years old, he is in second place in the championship with one victory and four podiums in seven rounds. At the same time, he is being linked to MotoGP for next year, with rumors suggesting he is a strong candidate for Trackhouse Racing.
In an interview with GPOne.com, the American did not hide that he feels more pressure from the results in 2024: ‘It’s certain that winning can help. Victories, pole positions, podiums, these are all things that decision-makers pay close attention to. I feel a lot of pressure this season because I’m getting good results. I don’t want to think too much about it; I’ve been competing in this category for several years and this year I have the chance to fight for the title, so I’m going to focus on that. As for my future, it’s clear that interest in having an American rider in MotoGP is growing, but we’ll see what happens’.
Asked how difficult it is to stay focused on the current task amid all the speculation, Roberts emphasized that he prefers not to pay attention to the matter until he has a formal offer:
– The fact that we’re already talking about the future at this point in the season can certainly be a distracting element, but I’ve worked a lot on my mental strength, also thanks to the people close to me. I prefer not to think about this until I have the offer in front of me; the paddock likes to talk and speculate, which is normal. I have people who take care of that, so I can focus on my job as a rider.
