In the last year, there have been talks several times about the possibility of Formula 1 and MotoGP holding a Grand Prix together, on the same circuit and on the same weekend. It would be something innovative and never done before, which now gains another kind of strength with Liberty Media being the owner of both championships.
But realistically, what are the chances of this joint event happening? Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna, spoke about the subject to the GPOne.com website:
– It is something to think about. It’s an idea that Stefano [Domenicali, chairman and CEO of F1] and I talked about in the past and it wasn’t possible to implement because it’s complicated, but I won’t stop thinking about options like this.
Throughout this season, F1 and MotoGP share five circuits: Austin, Barcelona, Losail, Silverstone, and Spielberg. Although other tracks from both championships are suitable for both, combining them on the same weekend presents some logistical challenges, as not all specific details required are the same.
