In 2016, Jorge Lorenzo decided to end a long partnership with Yamaha in MotoGP to pursue a new challenge, seeking different motivations. His choice was Ducati, which at the time was far from the success it has achieved in recent years.
The rider from Palma de Mallorca told the Tengo un Plan podcast that he trusted the potential with General Manager Gigi Dall’Igna, even comparing it to Lewis Hamilton’s move to Mercedes in Formula 1:
– I knew that Gigi Dall’Igna, who had been with me at Derbi in the 125cc, was going to make Ducati the best bike. He is very stubborn and achieves everything he sets out to do. It was like when Hamilton left McLaren to go to Mercedes, a team that had never won anything, but he knew he was going to have the best F1 car. I had that same intuition.
