Julio García González secured pole position this Friday for the opening round of the Supersport 300 World Championship, held in Barcelona. It’s a historic result, marking the first time a Chinese manufacturer – Kove – has achieved a pole position in an FIM world championship.
It was within the first five minutes that the Spanish rider set the lap time that gave him pole position, clocking in at 1m55.313s. Prior to that, Filip Novotny (Accolade Smrz Racing BGR/Kawasaki), Matteo Vannucci (Pata Yamaha AG Motorsport Italia), Bruno Ieraci (Team ProDina Kawasaki), and Kevin Sabatucci (Team Flembbo-PL Performance/Kawasaki) had taken turns leading.
Although González was never surpassed, other riders behind him improved their times. Daniel Mogeda (Team#109 Retro Traffic Kawasaki) came closest, just 44 thousandths of a second behind, followed by Vannucci at 0.093s. Sabatucci will start from fourth, ahead of Ieraci, while Petr Svoboda (Fusport-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) rounds out the second row of the grid in sixth.
