After the cancellation of the Argentina GP, many wondered about the MotoGP calendar for 2024 and there were still some doubts about the Sokol circuit in Kazakhstan, but Carmelo Ezpeleta guaranteed that it will go ahead this year.
The CEO of Dorna was questioned by Mundo Deportivo on the subject, and he clarified that, although some issues remain to be resolved, the GP will go ahead: ‘In Kazakhstan there is no problem of distance, I’m talking to them. The circuit has been finalised since July and there are still a few facilities missing. The Kazakhstan organisation will bring a large number of people to the Qatar GP, because there will be a lot of synergies between them on the issue of teams. It’s reasonably on track’.
As for the Hungarian GP, which was on standby in case of a contingency, that won’t happen, at least not yet, as he explained: ‘As for Balaton, we’re not thinking about it at the moment. They haven’t been able to do the necessary work to get it homologated for MotoGP. And no, it won’t be done. If any Grand Prix were in the air, it would still be 20 Grand Prix’.
Kazakhstan will thus host MotoGP from 14 to 16 June.
