There’s Ken Roczen’s first win of the year at the AMA Supercross 450 in Glendale. The Suzuki rider was the strongest from start to finish and led all 20 laps at State Farm Stadium to win for the first time this season in main events, on a day when the championship lead changed to Jett Lawrence.
The main event saw Roczen take the holeshot, with Aaron Plessinger and Jason Anderson in hot pursuit. It was Jett Lawrence who was struggling for a while, facing some challenges on the first lap, and Cooper Webb’s aggression led to him briefly going off the track.
Plessinger initially held second position for two laps, but struggled, eventually dropping to 19th after sinking off the front. Roczen increased his lead to two seconds over Anderson, with Eli Tomac a further three seconds behind. Webb’s strong manoeuvre on Vince Friese triggered a series of position changes, allowing Hunter Lawrence, Jett Lawrence, Chase Sexton, Dylan Ferrandis and Malcolm Stewart to pass.
Jett Lawrence gradually approached Webb, securing fourth position by skilfully navigating the whoops, which seemed to unsettle Webb. After the breakthrough by Jett and his brother Hunter, Ferrandis and Sexton quickly overtook Webb, pushing him into eighth place.
Plessinger was on the rise, recovering from 19th place and gradually gaining positions until he reached the top ten seven minutes from the end of the race, overtaking Justin Cooper. In the final part of the race, Jett Lawrence continued to gain ground on Eli Tomac, managing to move into third four minutes from the end.
Chase Sexton, meanwhile, seemed to be somewhat limited, perhaps due to the crash he suffered in the practice session prior to the race, with the rider having a more difficult final phase of the race, allowing Webb and Malcolm Stewart.
In the end, Ken Roczen secured his first win of 2024, crossing the finish line ahead of Anderson, Jett Lawrence, Tomac and Hunter Lawrence.
