Caleb Williams: The Next Franchise QB?
In less than three months, the highly anticipated NFL Draft will take place, and all eyes are on University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams. With an impressive record of 72 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions in his last two seasons with the Trojans, Williams has captured the attention of scouts and fans alike. Many believe he has the potential to become a true franchise quarterback.
However, there are lingering questions about Williams’ intangibles. Reports have surfaced that he may not want to play for the Chicago Bears, who hold the coveted No. 1 pick in the draft. Despite this speculation, Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” to shed some light on Williams’ priorities.
According to Riley, winning is Williams’ top priority. Location is secondary to him, as he is focused on finding the right situation where he can continue to develop and contribute to a successful franchise. Riley emphasized that Williams is all about the right things and will undoubtedly bring happiness to an NFL team.
Scouts have praised Williams for his ability to ad-lib and create something out of nothing, comparing him to the likes of Patrick Mahomes. However, concerns have been raised about his tendency to opt for spectacular long-range passes instead of simpler, higher-percentage options that would result in fewer yards.
The Chicago Bears, who held the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft, made the decision to trade it to the Carolina Panthers for wide receiver D.J. Moore and several future draft picks. Little did they know that one of those picks would turn out to be the top selection in this year’s draft.
Now, the big question is what the Bears will do with their valuable pick. Will they keep it and select Williams? Or will they trade down, potentially missing out on another high pick this year? Another possibility is sticking with Justin Fields as their quarterback.
Only time will tell what fate awaits Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears. But one thing is for certain – Williams’ talent and determination to win will make a lasting impact on whichever franchise he joins.
