After seven Grand Prix events, Marc Márquez is in third place in the MotoGP World Championship, returning to contention for top positions after difficult years with Repsol Honda. The switch to Gresini and a Ducati bike has yielded the expected results, with successes coming quickly despite the significant adaptation required.
Andrea Dovizioso, now retired from racing, has been observing the Spaniard’s journey from the sidelines and, in statements to MotoGP.com, he praised Márquez’s performance: ‘Everybody expects a lot from Marc, even me. Marc is a big talent and I think what he did – how fast he adapted to Ducati – is something really special, very, very difficult. Even if the bike is one of the best; the way he braked until this year was completely different and he has to change the way to approach the braking’.
Despite Márquez already fighting for top positions, reaffirming his prowess, Dovizioso believes there is room for his former rival to improve even more:
– He isn’t stil at 100% in my opinion from outside, but he’s there. So this is just another confirmation about his talent. Even if he’s not the youngest, he can fight there, without a factory bike. But I think he still has a small margin to be even better.
