Marc Márquez maintained a strong performance in Jerez during Monday’s test. The Gresini rider secured fifth place, and more importantly, felt significant improvements in his work.
The Spaniard explained that he provided much more precise feedback compared to the preseason: ‘We tried small things during all the day, but I’m very happy for the test, because compared to Malaysia and Qatar tests, there was a big difference on my comments. In Malaysia and Qatar tests, I was still adapting my riding style to the bike, I had some doubts and I said to them «maybe yes, maybe no». But today there was a big step on that way, I was super precise on the comments. This helps the technicians to know better my riding style. We did a few steps that let’s see if can work on the next races’.
According to Márquez, this progress comes from being more familiar with the bike: ‘It’s because I know the bike better, and I take more profit from the good things. Basically for me was super good because we finish the test and is not like, «we have the doubt». If we have this problem we take another direction and we will find the maximum’.
The eight-time world champion was able to test some solutions provided by Ducati, as he mentioned: ‘We tried a few things for them that the factory riders are already using. And we tried a few things just because sometimes they want to know the comments from another rider. And the most important thing is that the comments were precise, I think they were what they expected. But at the moment we work a lot with the set-up and basically we try to find the best with what we have’.
