Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne expressed his satisfaction upon hearing the comments made by Max Verstappen about the thrilling championship. Verstappen, a passionate race driver known for his traditional approach in Formula 1, has shown great interest in various racing disciplines, including Formula E. Vergne, a former Formula 1 driver and current Formula E champion, praised Verstappen for his comments.
In a recent statement, Vergne emphasized that many people have criticized Formula E without possessing sufficient knowledge about the championship. However, he appreciated Verstappen’s comments as the Red Bull driver actively follows Formula E races and has established friendships with several drivers in the series. This demonstrates Verstappen’s comprehensive understanding of the fully electric championship, as he consistently engages in various racing series, in addition to his participation in sim-racing.
After competing in Formula 1 with Toro Rosso in the early 2010s, Vergne was later replaced by Red Bull at the end of 2014. With Verstappen joining Red Bull’s sister team, Vergne transitioned to Formula E and the World Endurance Championship (WEC). In season 5, he became the first Formula E champion to successfully defend his title.
Vergne acknowledged that Formula E requires more extensive preparation compared to Formula 1 and WEC. He believes that any newcomer to the fully electric championship would need to acquire a comprehensive understanding of various aspects to achieve competitiveness.
Despite the increased prominence of Formula E over the past decade, it has still not managed to captivate the majority of racing enthusiasts. However, Verstappen’s positive comments could potentially influence a larger audience to consider watching the championship in the future.
