Max Verstappen secured the pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in Formula 1 on Saturday. The Red Bull driver had a difficult task in the free practice sessions, but managed to regain competitive pace in the qualifying session at Yas Marina to dominate the session and beat Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) in Q3.
To the official championship website, the Dutchman pointed out the possible reasons for the improvements after the difficult practices: ‘A good team effort, I reckon, also after FP3. A lot of people tried to find improvements and the car was set up in a better direction for me to attack more and feel better in it’.
When asked about his chances in tomorrow’s race, Verstappen said: ‘I didn’t do any long runs, so it’s a bit difficult to say at this moment. But from what I’ve felt so far, I had the best balance all weekend, so normally that also helps in the long distance’.
