Las Vegas Raiders Star Threatens Trade if Head Coach is Not Antonio Pierce
In a shocking turn of events, Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby has made it clear that he wants Antonio Pierce to be his head coach. Crosby’s support for Pierce during the Raiders’ coaching search has been unwavering, with the player even using social media and his podcast, The Rush, to express his desire for Pierce to lead the team. In fact, Crosby went as far as to state that if the Raiders did not hire Pierce, he would be open to exploring a trade.
“I want to be a Raider… but if we go in a different direction, there is nothing that is off the table,” Crosby boldly declared.
Fortunately for Crosby, his wishes were granted as the Raiders ultimately sealed the deal with Pierce just a few days later.
Pierce’s interim coaching stint with the Raiders proved to be successful, as the team went 5-4 under his leadership. This included a remarkable upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs and a historic victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. The entire locker room, not just Crosby, rallied behind Pierce, but the edge rusher felt it was his duty to voice his support.
“It’s not always about taking the easiest and most popular route,” Crosby explained. “Being a leader means standing up for what you believe in. I spoke not only for myself, but also for my teammates and the organization. That’s all that matters to me.”
Crosby had an outstanding 2023 season, showcasing his talent with 90 combined tackles, 14.5 sacks, 31 QB hits, 23 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. As a result, he earned his third consecutive Pro Bowl selection and his second All-Pro selection. However, individual success is not enough for Crosby.
“I want to win,” the 26-year-old emphasized. “I’m willing to face criticism for standing up for what everyone believes in. I’m here every single day, sacrificing myself and my body, putting it all on the line to help this team win. I want everyone else to have that same mentality.”
Crosby went on to explain why he believes Pierce is the perfect fit for the head coach position. As a former player, Pierce understands the perspective of the players, which sets him apart from other coaches. Crosby and Pierce share a mutual respect and understanding, as they both possess a strong alpha dog mentality.
“Coach was always testing me… he knows how to get under my skin, and I know how to get under his skin,” Crosby revealed. “He was a former captain and Super Bowl champion, and that’s what makes him special.”
With Antonio Pierce at the helm, the Las Vegas Raiders have a leader who understands the players and has the ability to bring out the best in them. Crosby’s unwavering support for Pierce has undoubtedly played a role in securing him as the head coach. Now, it’s time for the Raiders to focus on their goal of winning and achieving greatness under Pierce’s guidance.
