The sports division of Mercedes-Benz, AMG, seems to be willing to strengthen its electrification strategy and everything points to the preparation of an electric SUV with 1000 hp.
According to “Autocar”, the new model is expected to hit the market in 2026 and aims to rival the BMW XM or the Lotus Eletre.
Everything indicates that the new SUV will be presented as the successor to the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, being developed entirely by the sports division of the German brand, with Autocar suggesting that the prototype of the new model could be similar in length to the Vision AMG revealed in 2022.
The new high-performance SUV is expected to make use of the new AMG.EA platform, which will feature a series of innovations, including the use of axial flow motor technology, which is lighter and smaller than a conventional electric motor of similar power.
In addition to the new engines, the AMG.EA platform is also expected to benefit from a high-performance battery developed based on the know-how of the Mercedes-AMG team in F1.
The British publication does not provide technical details about the new AMG SUV, which will have all-wheel drive and a total power of 1000 hp, and is expected to be produced in the Sindelfingen factory in Germany, on the same assembly line as the sedan, which will arrive in the market earlier.
