Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced on Tuesday, October 24, that it will invest in Ampere, the software and electric vehicle company created by the Renault Group.
In a statement, Mitsubishi Motors confirmed that “the investment represents an ambitious step forward in its medium-term management plan announced in March 2023, where Mitsubishi Motors committed to the development of electric vehicles and strengthening cooperation with its Alliance members towards the acceleration phase of electrification. The maximum investment in Ampere will be €200 million.”
Through this initiative, Mitsubishi Motors aims to further improve its electric vehicle development technology and expand its range of zero-emission vehicles. As a first step in this collaboration, Ampere will produce a first 100% electric vehicle for Mitsubishi intended for the European market, after the brand has already launched the ASX and Colt this year, born within the scope of the Alliance and the partnership that brings together the three diamond brands, Renault and Nissan, while the arrival of the new generation of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is expected in the market in 2024.
It is worth noting that Ampere’s goal is to design and produce zero-emission vehicles with innovative methods and technologies, in order to enable the production of electric cars to have a lower cost than the current one.
