Mitsubishi is preparing to launch the new Outlander PHEV in Europe, the brand’s top-of-the-line model already available in the USA.
The Japanese brand is developing a specific version for the European market, which will arrive in the second semester of 2024. To showcase the capabilities of the new plug-in hybrid Outlander, they organized a test session with a select group of media, featuring the North American version equipped with the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system on the frozen lakes of Finland.
Among various all-wheel drive systems, the S-AWC is the one that best incorporates Mitsubishi’s engineering capability, significantly increasing driving ease and stability by continuously and perfectly controlling the vehicle’s movements during acceleration, in curves, and during braking. The S-AWC also provides superior performance on low-grip surfaces – dirt, snow, or ice – as well as comfortable driving in daily commutes.
This S-AWC function integrated into the 4×4 system with two electric motors, one in the front and one in the rear, ensures a distribution of driving force between the front and rear axles, while the Active Yaw Control (AYC) manages this distribution between the right and left wheels.
The Japanese brand has already announced that in the new Outlander PHEV, the increase in power of the front and rear motors, respectively to 107hp and 134 hp, ensures greater driving force to the wheels of both axles, which according to Mitsubishi significantly improves road performance in various weather and road conditions.
In the new Outlander, the driver can also select the most suitable driving mode for the road and driving conditions, as there are seven driving modes available: Normal, Asphalt, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Eco, and Power, or whichever best suits their personal preferences.
