For the second consecutive year, Max Verstappen is completely dominating in Formula 1 alongside Red Bull – with the new regulations introduced in 2022 aiming for a more balanced field not reflecting in the title fight. The next big change is only in 2026, but the FIA does not intend to change just to stop domination.
The president of the governing body, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, made it clear to the AS newspaper: ‘Why did Lewis [Hamilton] always win? Why did Michael Schumacher always win? I cannot punish success, it is his moment [Verstappen’s]. Those who say that GM Andretti cannot do anything in F1, that they will be humiliated by those who currently dominate, do not see that there are great champion teams that are not even in the top ten now? A winning team and a winning driver require many ingredients. Honestly, what do we do? Change the rules now? We can’t. It’s Max’s moment’.
Although Verstappen became champion with five rounds remaining in the season, Ben Sulayem believes that the reasons for interest in F1 will not cease to exist until Abu Dhabi: ‘I am certain that fans will find incentives after Max’s title. Each race will be a championship in itself. And that will be good’.
