BMW remains determined in its electrification strategy and the bet on a new 100% electric range that will make use of the new Neue Klasse platform is here to stay.
The guarantee came through BMW M CEO, Frank van Meel, who in an interview with “Motor Trend” said he is looking forward to taking advantage of the four-motor configuration that will be available in the new high-performance M model.
Frank van Meel recently hinted that the new high-performance model will “win everything” and will have a power of one megawatt, that is, 1341 hp, and will feature unique battery chemistry and cooling, internally designed electric motors, an 800-volt architecture, and special software to manage all of this.
Motor Trend predicts that the new electric performance sedan from the German brand will be the fastest-accelerating model in its history, demolishing the 0-100 km/h acceleration in less than 3 seconds. The electric motors can be water and oil-cooled, and an 800-volt electrical architecture will allow for ultra-fast charging.
The German automaker is also considering producing a rear-wheel-drive version that offers a different driving experience, with half the number of motors, which probably means half the power, that is, 670 hp.
It is already known that the Series 3 based on the new Neue Klasse platform will arrive in 2026, followed by the M variant which is expected to hit the market in 2027. The wagon version is planned for later.
