The practice sessions for the Moto3 German GP have concluded. Adrián Fernández set a new lap record at Sachsenring to lead Saturday morning’s session.
Six riders did not improve their times compared to yesterday afternoon’s practice, but overall, this was the fastest session of the weekend so far. David Alonso (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar), the championship leader, was the first to set a flying lap.
José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) then took the lead, only to be beaten by Collin Veijer. The Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP rider improved shortly after and remained at the top for over a quarter of an hour.
However, Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda) eventually took the lead. With 25 minutes elapsed, the Spaniard set the new circuit lap record at 1m25.053s, securing the lead until the end.
Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda) improved to second, 0.178s behind, followed by Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda) at 0.197s. Veijer and Alonso completed the top five of the session but not in the combined times of the two practices.
Stefano Nepa (LevelUp-MTA/KTM) was one of the few who did not improve on yesterday’s time (which allowed him to lead Friday afternoon’s session), but he was still fourth in the combined times, ahead of Veijer. Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) was in a similar situation, ranking sixth in the combined times ahead of Alonso.
In the battle for direct entry to the second qualifying session, the last spot was secured by Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports/KTM), 14th in the combined times, with a time identical to Joel Esteban (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar) who was 15th. Among the other riders going to Q1 is Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3), who is a contender for the top positions in the championship but suffered a late crash that prevented him from fighting for a spot in Q2.
