The Mercedes-Benz continues its journey towards electrification without forgetting the more dynamic models, and in this sense, it has now revealed the AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic.
The model with the signature of the sports division of the German brand is available in both SUV and SUV coupe body types and features a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 3.0-liter turbo engine with six cylinders producing 449 hp and 560 Nm of maximum torque, combined with an electric motor with 136 hp and 480 Nm of torque, which allows for a combined power of 544 hp and 750 Nm of maximum torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 250 km/h.
The electric motor is powered by a 31.2 kWh battery, which provides a 100% electric mode range of up to 87 km, and the charging power can be 11 kW with alternating current and 60 kW with direct current. In the latter case, Mercedes announces that charging the battery from 10% to 80% can be done in just 20 minutes.
The German SUV features an AMG braking system consisting of 400 mm front discs with six-piston calipers and 370 mm rear discs with single-piston calipers. The configurable AMG Performance exhaust system is also available.
Furthermore, the AMG GLE 53 plug-in hybrid is equipped with AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive damping, providing greater comfort, and features new stabilizers on both axles and new shock absorbers that enhance dynamic performance, along with an improved chassis, as well as the steering, ESP, and variable AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.
The new AMG SUV offers the traditional driving modes: Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Smoothness, and Individual, along with two specific modes for plug-in hybrid powertrains. The Electric mode allows for a maximum speed of 140 km/h in 100% electric mode, and the Battery Hold program, in which the combustion engine and electric motor provide only 25% of the maximum available power.
Aesthetically, the exterior design has few changes compared to the regular versions, and the sporty character of this SUV is enhanced with specific AMG badges, specific 21” wheels, and a standard panoramic roof.
In the interior, highlights include heated front seats, as well as the MBUX infotainment system, which has been modified to reflect the new hybrid configuration.
The new AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4 Matic does not have a price yet and it is not known when it will arrive in the national market, but in Germany, it is already known that the SUV coupe variant has a starting price of €133,851, while the SUV variant starts at €124,515.
