The unthinkable happened at the MotoGP Americas GP in April when Honda left Austin without any points. But the crisis of results and performance for the Japanese manufacturer continues and saw another chapter at the Italian GP.
At Mugello, the Japanese manufacturer was always among the last positions and didn’t score a single point. In both races, its best rider was Johann Zarco (LCR Honda), finishing 15th in the Sprint and 19th in the main race.
Thus, it was the second time in 2024 that Honda left a GP with zero points. The days of dominance, like the 1997 season when they won every Grand Prix, are long gone.
To find the last time Honda didn’t score points in a Grand Prix, one must go back to 1980. However, that year they only had one bike, entrusted to Takazumi Katayama in five of the 14 rounds held. The Japanese rider never scored. It’s also worth noting that in 1980 the manufacturer was in its second season after an 11-year absence that ended in 1979.
