Jorge Martín had to work hard to win the Sprint race at the MotoGP German GP. The Prima Pramac Racing rider started from pole position but found himself overtaken by Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) and Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia) before the first corner, forcing him to regain positions.
The Spaniard told the official championship website: ‘For sure is always nice to win. Here we were strong and we had to take the opportunity. I wasn’t at 100%, I was struggling a bit. Even though I was able to gain those positions that I lost in the first lap, that was not easy, and then trying to put a strong pace, but managing also the front and the rear tyre’.
Starting from pole position, Martín had a strategy in mind, but he admitted that dropping to third right after the start required a change of plans:
– I was always focused, but for sure I had to change the plan. Even the pressure was prepared for one strategy and then everything changed, so I had to overtake really quickly because for sure if I was stuck behind I would go backwards – this pressure rule is always complicated. I’m happy, I think we did our best and it was a victory. So tomorrow we’ll try again.
