The GNR revealed that in the last four days, 671 accidents were recorded, resulting in five deaths, 14 serious injuries, and 155 minor injuries, according to provisional data from the “Christmas and New Year 2023/2024” Operation, released this Tuesday, January 2.
In a statement, the GNR states that between 00:00 on Friday (December 29) and 23:59 on Monday (January 1), 34,993 drivers were inspected, of which 692 were driving under the influence of alcohol, and of these, 245 were arrested for driving with a blood alcohol content equal to or higher than 1.2 g/l (grams per liter of blood). In addition, 103 people were also arrested for driving without a driver’s license.
Of the 7,209 road offenses detected, the GNR highlights 1,690 for speeding, 447 for excess alcohol, 272 for lack or incorrect use of seat belts and/or child seats.
According to the data revealed, there were also 157 offenses for improper use of mobile phones while driving, 720 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, and 296 for lack of mandatory civil liability insurance.
The National Republican Guard also reminded that during the “Christmas and New Year 2023/2024” Operation, which ends this Tuesday and in January, “the GNR will continue to prioritize enforcement on driving under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic substances, speeding, and improper use of mobile phones.”
