What will be Miguel Oliveira’s future in MotoGP? With his contract with Trackhouse Racing ending, the rider has not secured anything for 2025, and the PecinoGP YouTube channel – run by renowned Spanish journalist Manuel Pecino – believes he could hold the key to the current market.
Antonio López, one of the regular commentators, argued that #88 is a highly sought-after target for all teams with available seats, so everything depends on the rider himself:
– He has the possibility to go to several factory teams, he has the possibility to be on a bike next year that allows him to fight for the championship. And at this moment, it depends on him because I think all the seats that are free, everyone wants Oliveira. Or at least all the manufacturers – except KTM, which is completely closed.
For Antonio López, Honda, in particular, may have a strong desire to secure Oliveira: ‘But at Aprilia, he would have a spot, at Yamaha he would have a spot, at Ducati he would have a spot. And, above all, at Honda, which suddenly seems to be the only possibility for Honda at this moment’.
Manuel Pecino argued that Oliveira could be seen as essential for Aprilia, especially with the departures of Aleix Espargaró and Maverick Viñales: ‘My opinion is that Aprilia unavoidably needs Miguel Oliveira and has to convince him not to jump ship. Because three of the four riders who know the bike are leaving, and then what remains is a rookie who has been in the category for some years but still hasn’t performed. How can they let go of Miguel? Who is fast, knows the bike, losing Aleix Espargaró who is going to Honda, losing Maverick Viñales. So I say, at this moment, the development of Aprilia, they have to go all in with Miguel. That is, all these problems that existed – exhaust issues, gearbox problems. It’s over, give that bike to Maverick, and give the good bike to Miguel. They need it’.
