Last week, KTM not only announced the riders for Tech3 in MotoGP for 2025, but also the return of Hervé Poncharal’s team to the Red Bull KTM Tech3 designation used until 2022 – switching to GasGas in 2023.
The Deputy CEO of Pierer Mobility Group, which owns both brands, explained to SPEEDWEEK.com that this decision reflects the strategy for KTM’s identity:
– Primarily, the decision to have the Tech3 team start again under the KTM designation from 2025 expresses a brand offensive. We agreed that at this moment and with the possibilities available to us, we would put the KTM brand at the forefront. We want to reinforce our «Ready to Race» philosophy in all aspects, not just in competition but also in product development. It’s about emphasizing our core values more strongly. That’s why we went all orange in MotoGP.
This does not mean that the GasGas brand will lose relevance within the group’s plans, as Trunkenpolz clarified: ‘It is important to understand that we are in no way weakening the importance of GasGas. On the contrary, we want to create more clarity in positioning them with greater differentiation. The realignment now aims to create even more loyalty to the products, which are particularly aimed at younger customers’.
In this sense, GasGas will continue to be present in the promotion categories, particularly in Moto3, especially after being significantly boosted this year in MotoGP by the talent of Pedro Acosta.
