Pierer Mobility Group is repositioning its brands in motorsport. Currently, GasGas, Husqvarna, and KTM compete in various disciplines, from enduro to MotoGP, but this is set to change.
The first visible sign came from MotoGP, with the announcement that Tech3 will drop the GasGas name and revert to KTM Tech3 starting in 2025. There will also be changes in other categories.
Hubert Trunkenpolz from Pierer Mobility Group board of directors, stated to SPEEDWEEK.com: ‘«KTM – Ready To Race», as the core of the brand, will return to its roots. Pointed and sharp, that is what KTM will stand for. Therefore, motorsport activities will increasingly shift to the KTM brand. This is why we will exit MotoGP with GasGas and compete with four KTMs’.
The director clarified that no brand will leave motorsport, but rather there will be a repositioning—including Husqvarna’s exit from road racing:
– This does not mean that we will withdraw from motorsport with the other two brands. I strongly oppose that. GasGas is supposed to appeal to the youth and be more accessible than KTM and Husqvarna. When it comes to young people, they will see the GasGas brand in sports — like in Moto3. Husqvarna will be prominently represented in all off-road sports. What we are doing with Husqvarna is here to stay. But what we are also doing with Husqvarna is leaving road racing.
