Aleix Espargaró is set to end his MotoGP career at the end of 2024, but it appears he will remain connected to the championship by transitioning into a test rider role, similar to what his brother Pol Espargaró did this year.
When asked if Aleix would be happy in these roles, Pol told the podcast Por Orejas from Motorsport.com that there are interesting aspects to being a test rider:
– I think so. Aleix is a person who is… in many moments, being a test rider is very boring because you have to try things that you know won’t work. But you need the data for the engineers. On the other hand, it’s very interesting because you’re testing the technology before everyone else; all the technology that will be used in the future, even on the road, is passing through your hands. And you are the person who chooses that technology that will help the factory riders.
According to Pol Espargaró, despite the associated responsibility, being a test rider is also very interesting: ‘That is to say, besides being a great responsibility, it’s a very interesting situation. And as I am curious, so is Aleix, having the opportunity to develop a MotoGP project with a factory behind it is something very crazy’.
