The qualifying session for the Portimão round of the Moto2 European Championship took place this Saturday. The pole position was secured by Roberto García, who led Q2 almost from start to finish.
Only eight riders participated in the first qualifying session, and half of them advanced to the second qualifying session. The fastest was Kaito Toba (PromoRacing/Kalex), beating Lorenzo Fellon (SF Racing/Honda) by 0.510s.
Taiga Hada (Gas Up Racing Team/Kalex) and Brett Roberts (EasyRace Team/Boscoscuro) also managed to qualify, while Mattia Rato (Fau55 Tey Racing/Kalex) finished fifth, missing out on Q2 by 0.854s.
The second qualifying session saw 18 riders battling for the pole position, with García (Fantic Cardoso Racing/Kalex) coming out on top. On his first flying lap, he clocked a time of 1m42.960s, which remained unbeaten until the end.
The closest competitor to the Spaniard was Alberto Surra (Team Ciatti-Boscoscuro) at 0.139s, followed by Daniel Muñoz (Gas Up Racing Team/Kalex), who secured third place on his final lap. The championship leader, Mattia Casadei (Team Ciatti-Boscoscuro), will start from sixth position.
