The automotive sector is increasingly concerned with the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its models, and Polestar has just revealed that the Polestar 4 is the Swedish brand’s model with the lowest carbon footprint.
Produced at Geely Holdings’ SEA factory in Hangzhou, China, the Polestar 4 Standard Range Single Motor has an ecological footprint equivalent to 19.4 tons of CO2, while the Long Range Single Motor variant has 19.9 tons and the Long Range Dual Motor version has 21.4 tons of CO2.
A greater use of low-carbon aluminum, as well as recycled aluminum from foundries using hydroelectricity, helps further reduce the climate impact.
The Swedish brand clarifies that aluminum accounts for between 23 and 24% of the total footprint, while steel and iron make up 20%, with battery modules representing the largest share of the carbon footprint associated with material production and refining, accounting for between 36 and 40%.
It should be noted that Polestar’s LCAs, published since 2020, consider a series of factors in the life cycle of a car, from raw material supply to production and recycling.
