This year, the World Superbike Championship has been more of a European championship than a global one, with all rounds taking place in that continent except for the season opener in Australia. This could change in 2025 with the potential return of Qatar.
According to GPOne.com, Dorna is working to bring Losail back into the calendar after a six-year absence – since 2019, as the event was canceled the following year due to the pandemic.
The plan is to include the Qatar round two weeks after Phillip Island in Australia, or the week immediately following – another change from this year’s calendar, where there was a one-month break between the first two rounds.
However, at that time of the year, the calendar would need to be carefully managed: the WSBK typically starts in late February, and with this scheduling, Losail might have to host both WSBK and MotoGP within a span of two to three weeks, considering that it usually hosts the first Grand Prix of the year in the first half of March.
