Fabio Quartararo is finding it increasingly challenging to maintain his motivation in the MotoGP circuit. After a disappointing performance during the official MotoGP tests in Misano last week, the French rider expressed his dissatisfaction. Quartararo, who was the World Champion and in contention for the title in the previous season, is now struggling to achieve significant results every weekend.
While much attention is focused on the future of Marc Márquez and Honda, Yamaha is also facing its set of challenges. Quartararo has a contract for the upcoming season, while his teammate, Franco Morbidelli, has already transitioned to Pramac Ducati.
This weekend, the Buddh circuit will host the inaugural MotoGP Grand Prix of India. As it’s a new track, all riders will be on a level playing field in terms of familiarity. However, Quartararo is not very optimistic about Yamaha’s performance on this circuit, especially due to its long straights. Speaking to DAZN, he said, “I don’t think we’ll be fighting at the top.”
The Misano tests were a letdown for Quartararo, who felt that no progress was made. He stated, “I can clearly say it was a disappointment. It did not meet my expectations. We haven’t taken a step forward at all.” He further mentioned that if the team manager believes the bike is better, then he should be listened to. However, Quartararo emphasized the importance of the rider’s perspective, as they are the ones testing the bike and experiencing its performance firsthand. He expressed concerns that if they are not on the same page, 2024 might be similar or even worse than this year.
Regarding the Buddh circuit, Quartararo believes that the track’s characteristics, especially the long straights, will not favor Yamaha. He said, “I think not. Because of the straights. In Indonesia, there weren’t many straights, and we were at the front initially. But with so many straights and accelerations, we will suffer a lot.”
In conclusion, Quartararo is not very hopeful about competing at the top in the upcoming race but assures that he will give his best to achieve the best possible position.
