Amidst of all the controversy with RNF Racing in the 2023 MotoGP season, Razlan Razali resigned as director of the company he founded just before the end of the year. The partnership with CryptoDATA ended up not going as expected, with difficulties and controversies that ended with the team losing its place – being replaced by Trackhouse Racing.
Razali spoke to the website Crash.net about his recent time at RNF, explaining why he left his position as director early:
– I did tender my resignation as a director, because I sensed that it’s not going to get any better. And I also sensed it was doing harm to the championship. A championship that we all love. So, after discussing with my family, I thought it’s just best for me to resign as director.
However, the Malaysian continued as team principal until the end, and he justified it: ‘I did not resign as a team principal until the end of the last race because I felt obligated to the team. I’m not the kind of person to abandon the team. I wish I could do more for the team. Because money is still owed from last year. And I feel very bad for that’.
The agreement between RNF and CryptoDATA meant the Romanian company became the majority shareholder with 60%. However, according to Razali, there were many financial troubles, and he even revealed the team went to GPs with zero balance in the account.
