Álex Rins saw bad luck knocking on his door once again and suffered a huge crash in Assen seconds after the start of the MotoGP race on Sunday, which resulted in three fractures. Needing time to recover, and with the category stage already this week at Sachsenring, the driver will be replaced by Remy Gardner, who will return to the competition.
Without the possibility of being on the track, Yamaha will have to turn to Gardner, rider of the GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, in Superbikes, to take the Spaniard’s place according to the international press, reporting that the Australian is chosen to fill the absence of Rins
If confirmed, this will be Gardner’s return to MotoGP, where he left as a full-time rider at the end of 2022, where he wore the colors of Tech3 KTM Factory Racing.
In his short stint in the category, where he only had one season, Gardner’s best result was 11th in Catalunya, and in Sachsenring he was 15th. Currently in Superbikes the Australian is in seventh place.
The MotoGP grid could have two Australians on the track next weekend, with Gardner joining Jack Miller.
