VW has revealed the updated Golf R and Golf R Variant, the most radical versions of the iconic model from the German brand, which come with more power, updated design, and more technology.
Similar to the GTI, the new Golf R features a new front section with simplified headlights and an illuminated VW logo, along with a more muscular bumper.
The new Golf R Variant stands out with its matte chrome rearview mirrors, sporty side skirts, and 18 or 19-inch wheels. At the rear, VW has equipped the sporty model with new taillights, as well as a generously sized glossy black diffuser and a four-exit exhaust system, which, according to the brand, improves the sound of the Golf.
The German brand hasn’t forgotten about customers looking for a sportier image of the Golf R. For this, they can choose the 19” Warmenau forged alloy wheels, which according to VW have an appealing design and improve driving dynamics. These wheels weigh only 8 kg, which is about 20% lighter than regular alloy wheels, allowing for reduced unsprung mass and ensuring perfect vehicle behavior.
Also available as an option is a titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic, IQ.Light LED matrix headlights, and 3D LED taillights with dynamic turn signals.
For those who are not satisfied with these options, VW also offers the Golf R Black Edition, with darkened headlights, dark logos, and a variety of black details, including wheels, brake calipers, and exhaust tips. This special edition Golf R also comes standard with the Performance pack.
In the interior, the highlight is the new infotainment system that features a 12.9” touchscreen display, with a new menu structure and improved graphics. Additionally, the digital instrument panel has a 10.2” screen and includes a G-force meter and a GPS-based stopwatch for models with the Performance pack.
VW has further improved the air conditioning controls and equipped the new Golf R with a new sporty steering wheel with buttons. This new R variant of the iconic German brand model is also equipped with sports seats, carbon fiber imitation details in blue, and ambient lighting with 30 colors.
In terms of engine, the new Golf R uses the well-known 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 333 horsepower and 420 Nm of maximum torque, which is 13 horsepower more than its predecessor.
The power is transmitted to the 4Motion all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring, through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which allows for an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, and reach a maximum speed, with the Performance pack, of 270 km/h.
