It was a memorable Sunday for Sacha Coenen in Kegums as he secured his first career win in the MX2 World Championship, specifically at the MXGP of Latvia.
In the first race, Sacha Coenen (Red Bull KTM) took the holeshot and led the first seven laps, pressured by Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna). At one point, de Wolf went wide in an attempt to overtake, falling to third. The Dutchman needed only two corners to regain the lead on the eighth lap and maintained it to win by 2.853s over Lucas Coenen (Nestaan Husqvarna). Sacha Coenen finished third, 20.027s behind.
In the second race, de Wolf made the holeshot but fell on the first lap, losing several positions. Sacha Coenen inherited the lead, distanced himself, and controlled the race to win by 15.755s ahead of Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull GasGas). Lucas Coenen, who was initially outside the top five, managed to secure third place, ahead of Liam Everts (Red Bull KTM). De Wolf, having a race to forget, only recovered to ninth, equaling his worst result of the year.
Sacha Coenen claimed the overall victory with 45 points, three more than Lucas Coenen. Längenfelder completed the MXGP of Latvia MX2 podium, five points behind the winner and three points ahead of de Wolf. The top five was rounded out by Everts in fifth.
