Carlos Sainz Jr from Spain, driving for Ferrari SF-24, participated in the Formula 1 World Championship, Round 7, Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, on May 18, 2024. Sainz expressed his belief that the expectations surrounding Ferrari’s updates in Formula 1 at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix were exaggerated. Despite a good start to the season, Ferrari introduced a significant upgrade package in hopes of reducing the gap to Red Bull. However, the team did not perform as well as expected in qualifying, with Sainz emphasizing that the improvements made by Ferrari were in line with his expectations and not as significant as speculated. Sainz also acknowledged that other teams were updating their cars, making it challenging for Ferrari to make a significant leap forward. He suggested that the upgraded car may be more competitive on circuits that do not highlight its weaknesses. Sainz mentioned that Ferrari’s package was in development before the start of the season and now they are aware of the car’s weaknesses in low-speed corners. He expressed optimism that Ferrari can address these issues and improve its performance. Additionally, Sainz highlighted the need to focus on the performance of the soft tire, as it has been inconsistent for Ferrari this year. He also mentioned being puzzled by sector one of the track in Imola.
