For the first time since leaving Formula 1 at the end of 2022, Sebastian Vettel has left the door slightly open for a return. In recent weeks, he has been speculated as one of the possible replacements for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, and has been in contact with the team’s executive director – Toto Wolff.
In an interview with Radio X, the four-time world champion explained that a return to F1 is an attractive scenario, but it would all depend on the technical package he could have at his disposal:
– The better the car, the better the team, the more exciting it is in terms of having the prospect of success. I follow the sport, I see what’s going on. And a return could be appealing and interesting, but it really depends on the complete package because it’s also a big commitment, with all the other things happening outside of the driving activity. To seriously consider, it would depend a lot on the whole package’.
For his part, Vettel feels young despite being 36 years old, ensuring that he could do ‘ten more years’ of F1 and continues to stay fit. In an interview with Sky Sports, the German revealed: ‘I had conversations with him [Wolff], not about the seat. We talked about the overall situation in the sport as well. But I also talked to others because I still keep myself informed from time to time. I have some projects and ideas along with F1. We’ll see if they will materialize or not’.
