Qualification below expectations for Sergio Pérez in the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix. After demonstrating good speed in practice and the first two phases of qualifying, he ended up only in ninth in Q3 and on the starting grid – also having a fast lap canceled for exceeding track limits.
The Mexican from Red Bull stated: ‘Things seemed very good, we were very competitive in Q1 and Q2, but unfortunately we didn’t compose things in Q3 and it got worse when our lap was eliminated. It was a bit of a disaster with the set of used tires, we had a problem with drivability and then unfortunately I was caught by track limits. I had a moment coming out of turn one and that made it very difficult for me to compose a lap, it wasn’t a very clean lap in the end’.
There are six positions to recover up to the top three and Pérez has set that goal for Sunday’s race at Yas Marina: ‘The podium will be the objective in the race, nobody has much information on how it will perform in the race, so we’ll see. As I always say, anything can happen’.
