Sergio Pérez managed to recover five positions to finish fourth in the United States Grand Prix of Formula 1. However, the Red Bull driver wanted more and even crossed the finish line in fifth place: he moved up to fourth due to the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who finished second.
The Mexican driver talked about a race in which he lacked consistency and not all strategic decisions were the best: ‘It’s obvious that I wanted more. Sometimes we had a very good pace, but we still lack that consistency. It was a tough race, Ferrari seemed to have improved, but I also think we took a good step compared to Saturday. It was very difficult to overtake, especially because the exit of turn 11 was very tricky as it was very windy and tough there. We had some opportunities to undercut other drivers, so I think we need to review that as a team’.
According to Pérez, the lessons will be learned to apply them immediately in the Mexico City Grand Prix next weekend: ‘I believe we know what we did wrong throughout the weekend, so we are really optimistic going into future races. We need to make sure we learn from this weekend, as there are some good understandings to be made for Mexico. There is a bit more pace and I am really looking forward to my home GP’.
