The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a massive investment in securing a superstar for their team. Shohei Ohtani has signed a groundbreaking 10-year, $700 million contract, ensuring that the Dodgers have the best and most talented player in baseball for the next decade. However, there is a setback for Ohtani as he will not be able to pitch in the upcoming 2024 season due to an elbow injury. This injury, a torn UCL typically requiring Tommy John surgery, was revealed a few weeks ago. Surprisingly, it was disclosed that Ohtani underwent a different type of procedure instead of the traditional surgery. In a recent appearance, a close-up of his scar was captured in high definition by FOX Sports: MLB. The procedure he recently underwent differs from the Tommy John surgery he had in 2018. Although he will still be sidelined for the 2024 season as a pitcher, the Tommy John surgery would have likely delayed his return to the mound until 2025. The exact origin of the scar seen in the picture remains unclear, but it is believed to be from the recent procedure. The Dodgers are hopeful that Ohtani will be able to participate in a full spring training as a two-way player in 2025. However, for the 2024 season, he will be limited in his abilities due to the recovery from the elbow surgery. Nonetheless, he is expected to be ready to hit and field by Opening Day. If given the opportunity to play around 150 games this year, Ohtani has the potential for an extraordinary offensive season with the Dodgers. The hope is that he can maintain his health and focus. If luck is on our side, we may witness Ohtani’s debut in postseason baseball in MLB for the first time in his career.
