The number 51 car of Dale Coyne Racing has added another driver for the 2024 season. Toby Sowery has been announced as the driver for the team’s participation in the upcoming Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This will be Sowery’s first time competing in the IndyCar series, as he previously competed in the IndyNXT series. He has also participated in the GT World Challenge Endurance Cup and some events in the IMSA LMP2 category with Crowdstrike Racing. Sowery’s return to formula car racing will be a new challenge, especially with the introduction of the IndyCar hybrid power system. In an announcement, Sowery expressed his excitement for the opportunity and acknowledged the difficulty of adapting to the hybrid system with limited time in the car. With this signing, Sowery becomes the sixth driver to race in the number 51 car for DCR this season. Given that Sowery’s agreement only covers one race, it is possible that the number of drivers in the car may increase before the end of the season. Team owner Dale Coyne spoke highly of Sowery’s adaptability and track record, and, recognizing the learning curve of the hybrid car, expressed confidence in Sowery’s ability to adapt quickly. The Mid-Ohio weekend will begin on July 5th, and the race will take place on July 7th at 1:45 PM Eastern Time.
