Stella blames Verstappen for his collision with Norris at the Austrian GP.
The McLaren team principal, Andrea Stella, stated that the clash between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen in the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix is a result of previous unpunished maneuvers.
The intense battle between Norris and Verstappen worsened when the two drivers collided with seven laps remaining, as Verstappen moved towards Norris at Turn 3.
Norris blamed Verstappen for the incident, which caused punctures to both drivers’ tires and prematurely ended his race. He criticized Verstappen’s move during braking as “reckless”.
While Red Bull team principal Christian Horner supported Verstappen’s argument that a 10-second penalty was too severe, Stella emphasized that only one driver was at fault.

“If you don’t address these issues honestly, they will resurface.
“In the past, when there were collisions with Lewis Hamilton that deserved harsher penalties, they were not handled correctly.
“That’s how you learn to race in a certain way.”
Verstappen has gained a reputation for being a uncompromising driver in wheel-to-wheel battles, which was criticized during his clashes with title rival Hamilton in 2021.
Stella argues that Verstappen’s aggressive driving was not properly addressed at that time to prevent similar incidents when Red Bull was caught out.
“There have been numerous incidents,” he continued. “We have high regard for Red Bull and Max, so they don’t need to resort to this.
“Do you want to compromise your reputation? Why would you do that?
“The race commissioners deemed Max fully responsible for this incident. It’s not about racing like a pilot. It’s about driving within the rules.
“The rules must be effectively enforced.
“When a car is forced to retire from the race as a result, the punishment should be proportional to the outcome.
“Prior to this incident, he moved during braking twice. It’s clear that we need to apply the correct way of racing.”
