Even before WSBK Race 2 at Phillip Island, the Superpole race took place, and there was no shortage of reasons to celebrate: four years later Alex Lowes returned to winning ways in the category, and Toprak Razgatlioglu took his first podium with BMW.
Almost like a replica of Race 1, Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) got off to a great start and initially led the Superpole race. However, in the first corner of the second lap Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) overtook him.
In fact, the Italian saw bad luck knock on his door: his Ducati had a mechanical problem from the sixth lap onwards, which slowed him down substantially in the race.
Alex Lowes was then in the clear to take his first win in four years, thus ending a long streak, finishing the race ahead of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha), while Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) was third, his first podium with the German manufacturer in only his second race.
