Takaaki Nakagami’s future with LCR Honda is nearly confirmed. At a time when the manufacturer is facing challenges in terms of competitiveness, the rider is expected to secure his sixth season in the premier class in 2024.
Quoted by Motorsport.com, the Japanese rider revealed that the future is now almost certain: ‘In Assen, before the summer break, and in the last race in Austria, I had meetings with HRC, with Tetsuhiro Kuwata [HRC director], about my future. It’s almost decided. There’s a 99.9 percent chance of staying with the same team. That’s what I can say now, it’s almost done’.
Currently, Nakagami is 17th in the championship and is the top-performing Honda rider, two places ahead of Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda). One of the possible contenders for his spot was Ai Ogura, but he is expected to remain in the Moto2 World Championship.
