Days after KÜS Team Bernhard announced their departure, speculation is rife that Team Rosberg could make the opposite move and return to DTM in 2024 – where they left after last year’s season.
At least, that’s the desire within the team structure, as team boss Kimmo Liimaitanen made clear when speaking to Motorsport-Total.com: ‘DTM is our goal’.
This year, Team Rosberg focused on their operations in Extreme E, as well as selling one of their two Audi R8 LMS GT3 cars with which they competed in DTM in 2021 and 2022. However, the four-ring manufacturer – which no longer supports its customer teams – is not the only option on the table, although it is the one the manager prefers.
One of the alternatives could be BMW, and Liimaitanen reacted to this possibility by saying: ‘I don’t want to confirm or deny that, but we are talking to all kinds of addresses that make sense. We are also talking to non-European brands’.
