After introducing the successor to the coupe versions of the C and E Class, Mercedes has now revealed the new CLE53 with the stamp of the AMG sport division, which features a six-cylinder in-line engine with a 48V “mild hybrid” system.
This 3.0-liter, turbocharged engine is capable of delivering a power of 449 hp and a torque of 560 Nm, which can reach 600 Nm for a few seconds with the overboost function.
The second-generation “mild hybrid” system is integrated into the nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT 9G dual-clutch automatic gearbox, contributing to an additional power of 23 hp and 205 Nm.
These numbers allow the first AMG version of the Mercedes CLE to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h, which can be increased to 270 km/h with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package.
The power is transmitted to all four wheels of the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system through the automatic gearbox. In addition, the new CLE53 is equipped as standard with a four-wheel steering system that allows the rear wheels to turn up to 2.5 degrees at speeds below 100 km/h, and up to 0.7 degrees simultaneously with the front wheels at speeds above 100 km/h.
The CLE 53 4Matic+ Coupe is also equipped with the AMG Ride Control suspension system to improve agility without sacrificing comfort.
To brake all the power, the new AMG model is equipped with 370mm diameter discs with four-piston calipers at the front, while at the rear, 360mm discs with floating single-piston calipers are used.
The new CLE 53 offers various driving modes that allow adjustment of various parameters such as the engine, transmission, chassis, and steering response, adapting the driving to the driver’s preferences, including a drift mode that sends all power to the rear axle.
Aesthetically, the new Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 features a more aggressive design and clearly stands out from the conventional versions with its front section marked by the Panamericana grille, a new bumper, LED headlights with Digital Light option, specific mirror caps, a rear spoiler placed on the trunk lid, and a rear bumper with a generously sized air extractor, complemented by a four-pipe exhaust system. This first AMG CLE also features 19” wheels as standard, with 20” wheels available as an option.
In the interior, the highlight is a sporty AMG steering wheel in black leather and Alcantara, with integrated gearbox controls, as well as rotary selectors for the driving modes, and a fully digital 12.3” instrument panel with specific display modes.
In the center of the dashboard, there is an 11.9” central screen installed vertically, which features specific display modes for the versions with the Affalterbach signature.
The seats with MB-Tex/microfiber upholstery come with red stitching as standard, and leather finishes are available as an option. The AMG Performance Seat package equips the new model with sport seats.
