Toprak Razgatlioglu tested a Yamaha MotoGP bike last year, which at least hinted at some investment from the manufacturer in the rider. However, months later, it became clear that the premier class was not an option, and the Turkish rider ended up moving to ROKiT BMW in the World Superbike Championship.
The 2021 champion revealed to motorsport-total.com that despite the test, Yamaha never had intentions of promoting him to MotoGP: ‘The Yamaha didn’t plan to bring me to MotoGP’.
On Razgatlioglu’s side, his manager Kenan Sofuoglu assured more than once that there was no intention of moving to MotoGP, with the goal being to continue excelling in WSBK.
Regarding the move to BMW, the #54 explained: ‘They didn’t want the new contract, and that’s why I started talks with BMW. I signed with BMW, and I’m very happy now. It was a new challenge for me, and I’m more motivated than ever’.
