Enea Bastianini started the MotoGP season with fifth place in the Qatar GP – having finished sixth in the Sprint race. Results below the potential of Ducati, so the rider doesn’t leave Losail entirely satisfied.
The Italian told the press: ‘For me it wasn’t nothing special, because at the start I’ve tried to be a little bit slower to be much faster during the last part of the race. But it wasn’t the correct choice, because at the end the drop was less compared to Saturday. It would be better to try to do the maximum from the start and I’m not happy with this. But generally this fifht place can be a good starting point. But my target was to do something better’.
When asked if he managed to improve the balance of the bike after the Sprint race, Bastianini acknowledged that the direction taken was not ideal: ‘Maybe we worked in one direction, but it wasn’t the correct one because the problem was quite the same. We have to see why during the test I was much faster in the race simulation compared to Sunday’s race. Also the conditions were different, but I think I have a lot of data now to see and to check for the next round. I think we can be half satisfied’.
