The MXGP of Portugal, counting towards the MXGP and MX2 Motocross World Championships, started on a rainy Saturday. In the MXGP category, Tim Gajser was the winner of the qualifying race in Águeda, while Liam Everts was stronger in the MX2.
Starting with the main category, MXGP, Gajser (Team HRC) took the lead right from the first lap and never looked back. His pursuer was always Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM), in a battle between champions that the Slovenian won by 2.361s.
In third place was Romain Febvre (Kawasaki), who lacked the pace to keep up with the top two. Nevertheless, the Frenchman finished a solid third with over a minute lead over Calvin Vlaanderen (Monster Energy Yamaha). Pauls Jonass (Standing Construct Honda) rounded out the top five.
As for the MX2, Everts had a dominant performance. Rick Elzinga (Monster Energy Yamaha) led in the first two laps, but the Belgian from Red Bull KTM took control of the race to win by a margin of 28.052s.
Elzinga managed to hold onto second place with a similarly solid lead, while Hakon Osterhagen (JM Honda Racing) finished third. Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull GasGas) was fourth, with Lucas Coenen (Nestaan Husqvarna) in fifth.
